Description
Purpose of the role:
To machine components in line with Hitachi standards/specifications. Interpret engineering drawings and use a wide range of machine tools.
Reports to: Machine Shop Supervisor.
Branch: Reman Workshop Lusaka.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Machinist will be required to perform the following tasks:
- Carry out a job safety analysis (JSA) before work starts.
- Ensure task requirements are clearly understood and all risks identified before commencing the job.
- Work according to all safety policies and ensuring that correct PPE is worn at all times.
- Adhere to all company requirements for the use of permits, risk assessments, Isolations and risk management.
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow safety regulations
- Conduct daily Workshop Maintenance (preventive & corrective actions).
- Perform various machining operations using all standard machine tools with minimum supervision.
- Perform line boring operations using portable line boring machines.
- Must be able to do JIG and fixture designing.
- Must be able to interpret engineering Drawings.
- Must understand Limits and Fits, reference to tolerance dimensions.
- Must have knowledge to Dismantle, Asses, Assemble components e.g. speed reduction, gear boxes and any Related Components.
- Must be able to understand materials and material failure analysis.
- Analyses component parts, and machine to suit the prevailing situation at sites.
- Must be able to do crack detecting, repair and heat treatment.
- Must be able to perform Critical measurements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must have a full Grade 12 certificate.
- Must have a Craft Certificate in Machining from a government recognized Institution.
- Must have at least 4 years’ experience in mining, engineering or any related industries as a qualified artisan machinist.
- Must be a Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)

- Be able to work overtime if the need arises.

- Ability to be exposed to dust, heat and noise in a controlled fixed process plant environment.
